Latest education trends – Summer 2024

BLOG 22 SEP 2024

Here’s a round up of the latest education trends from Summer 2024.

We installed thousands of Wall Art designs during the school summer holidays. And through our work with education leaders around the world we were able to identify the latest education trends, based on what schools are currently focusing on.

Here we’ll share the latest education trends you need to know about, so you can ensure your school stays one step ahead of the rest…

Wellbeing remains a top priority

Public Health England’s ‘whole school approach‘ to wellbeing remains a key focus for UK schools. And wellbeing is a priority for International Schools too. Education leaders are finding new ways to link good mental health with positive education engagement and achievement.

Wellbeing walls are an increasingly popular solution for this. Specfically, schools are using their walls to offer tips and advice to pupils about how to look after their mental and physical health.

For example, Downlands Community School offers pupils some insight into the Science of Happiness with a large visual Wall Art design (below). Ten tips, complemented with relevant images, encourage pupils to take steps to feel happier, set priorities and achieve balance.

Identity and a sense of belonging

Identity and community are certainly not new topics when it comes to the latest education trends. But the way schools are reflecting their identities and building a sense of belonging is definitely fresh and exciting.

Schools who have strong, well communicated values can expect their pupils to feel safe, confident and included. Values also show members of the wider community what a school stands for and its unique ethos.

Over the school holidays, we installed a number of Wall Art projects that focused on school values. Values walls are a huge trend for schools at the moment. Some schools even include their pupils in the design process; asking them to draw images that represent each value. This adds a personal touch and makes the values relatable to all types of learners and all ages.

We designed this Values wall (below) for Whitfield Aspen School. Set against a nature backdrop, the visuals show that school values are a critical piece of the puzzle – and a powerful force when they come together.

Future careers

Schools are encouraging pupils to think ahead and consider their future careers beyond the school gates.

We’ve seen this trend growing over the past few years as more schools ask us to feature future careers linked to their curriculum.

Schools are giving context to pupils so they understand why core subjects matter and how these can shape their future. It’s a trend we expect to continue growing as schools find innovative ways to inspire learning across the curriculum.

For example, this STEM wall, designed for The Highfield School, shows pupils that what they learn today will support their future career.

Lifelong learning through literacy

Literacy remains a big focus for schools. It provides the foundation to lifelong learning and supports every aspect of whole child education, from wellbeing to academic achievement.

We’re delighted at the growing volume of schools who are asking us to help create magical reading spaces. For some, this means enhancing their existing library, with beautiful visuals and a calming backdrop. Other schools don’t have a library but want to designate a reading area somewhere in their school. Whatever the implementation looks like, literacy is one of the latest education trends that shows no signs of slowing down.

For younger readers, schools are using their walls to create magical fantasy worlds. Little learners can get lost in enchanted forests and faraway kingdoms.

Whilst older readers are drawn to real life images of aspirational heroes, inspiring storylines and sitrring quotes from classic tomes.

This is an education trend that won’t be going anywhere – and we’re excited to continue bringing literacy to the walls of schools around the world.
