Downlands Community School ‘The Science of Happiness’ Wall Art
The Science of Happiness includes ten key steps…
We created Wall Art to share the Science of Happiness with pupils at Downlands Community School. These ten steps reflect everyday activities that pupils and teachers can undertake to make themselves happier. They are based on the ten steps shared by Action for Happiness, a movement of people taking action to create a happier and kinder world.
The goal of the design is to inspire and motivate pupils to apply these to their own lives. Of course, happier, healthier pupils achieve better learning outcomes. So there’s an indirect benefit to attainment rates too!
We used simple, but inspiring, images to represent each step. All set against a calm background to ensure the messages stand out and pupils can reflect on each one in a calm environment. The Wall Art has pride of place in a communal area with wooden bench seating for pupils to use. The idea here is that pupils can seek out this space alone or with peers. It’s a warm and welcoming space for all pupils.
We loved working with the team at Downlands Community School to bring this project to life.
Science of Happiness Wall Art
This is the first time we’ve worked on a Wall Art project that explores the Science of Happiness. We were delighted to undertake a project that has a practical focus on wellbeing.
Wellbeing is a huge priority for all schools. But it can be difficult to know what physical steps schools can take to improve their pupils’ mental health. This Science of Happiness wall is a powerful concept.
It includes simple steps that children and adults can do every day. And, the benefit of Wall Art is that pupils will see the messages and absorb their meaning as they walk past the designs every day. Because the Wall Art design is in a communal area, the space can also be used by pupils who need to regulate, alone or with classmates.
