Are you ready for The Summer Reading Challenge 2026?

BLOG 01 MAY 2026

We’re delighted to announce that we are once again supporting The Summer Reading Challenge.

This is the fourth year in a row that we’ve directly supported the Reading Challenge.

We are proud to partner with The Reading Agency on this fantastic initiative that encourages children to keep reading, for pleasure, throughout the summer holidays.

Summer Reading Challenge 2026

Children across the UK are encouraged to get reading through the summer. And, they can earn rewards and prizes along the way! The Summer Reading Challenge launches on 20th June in Scotland and in the rest of the UK on 4th July 2026.

The Reading Agency works with local library authorities to offer the challenge. But children can also take part online. They can create an account, set a goal and earn badges as they progress through their reading list. When a child finishes a book, they can log it and add a review of the story.

Once each child reaches their reading goal, they’ll receive a certificate for their achievement. The Summer Reading Challenge is a really fun and engaging way to get kids reading! Schools can also get involved – take a look…

Read to the Beat

This year The Reading Agency has partnered with Universal Music Group UK. The theme is ‘Read to the Beat!’

This inspiring collaboration will harness the universal appeal of music to tackle the decline in children’s reading enjoyment and inspire a new generation of readers in the UK.

Universal Music Group artists will champion the joy of reading and share their own stories of creative expression. Children will then have the opportunity to discover diverse musical genres and cultural influences. They’ll see specially curated reading lists and engaging activities that celebrate the connection between storytelling and sound.

Throughout summer 2026, families can expect special events, digital content, and interactive experiences. These will demonstrate how rhythm, melody, and narrative work together to spark imagination and creativity.

Benefits for schools, children and families

The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to encourage children to keep reading during the break. It significantly improves children’s reading skills and confidence;

You can make a huge difference this year by encouraging your pupils to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge over the holidays. It’s the UK’s biggest reading for pleasure programme for primary school children in libraries

Our partnership

Here at Promote Your School, we are passionate about all things creative, especially linked to the creativity in books and literacy. We believe every child should have the opportunity to discover a love of reading and engage with books in a way that inspires curiosity and imagination. That’s why we love creating inspiring Wall Art for libraries, literacy spaces and reading areas, both inside and outside school buildings, helping to create environments where reading can thrive and children can experience the many educational and wellbeing benefits that reading brings.

Many members of our team have seen first-hand the positive impact of The Summer Reading Challenge, with their own children taking part year after year. And some even go on to volunteer in their local libraries in support of the initiative. Because of this, we understand just how valuable the Challenge is in encouraging children to read for pleasure.

We are delighted to once again be supporting the campaign this year. It will help raise awareness and inspire even more children to get involved in reading over the summer holidays.

Win Wall Art for your school

Each year, Promote Your School donates a literacy Wall Art project as a prize for the Reading Challenge.

The Reading Agency selects a participating library authority at random. And this library can choose how they want to use the Wall Art prize as an incentive for schools to take part in the challenge.

The library will pick a winning school and they’ll receive a fully bespoke literacy Wall Art project. Promote Your School will design, print and install the project as part of the prize!

The Wall Art design will promote literacy and encourage reading for pleasure. We will create the designs in-house and bespoke to the school’s requirements (according to our Ts&Cs).

We cannot wait to see which school will win this year and to get started on their design!

What is literacy Wall Art?

Bespoke, literacy Wall Art sparks curiosity and fuels imaginations in children of all ages. It’s a visually stunning medium that adds wow factor to the learning environment.

We create the designs according to a design brief agreed with the school. Then, we print and install the designs on the chosen surface in a designated area.

Popular areas for Wall Art include corridors, stairwells, school halls, canteens, department walls and reception areas.
