Summer Reading Challenge 2024 Wall Art Case Study

BLOG 18 JAN 2025

St John’s C of E Primary School in Blackpool won the Summer Reading Challenge random prize draw.

Each year, Promote Your School sponsors the Summer Reading Challenge. We work with The Reading Agency and local library authorities to encourage schools to take part. By encouraging pupils to participate, schools have a chance of winning a bespoke Wall Art project.

St John’s Church of England Primary School in Blackpool were the lucky winners in 2024! They’ve received a fully bespoke Wall Art project, including design, print and installation.

We’re delighted to showcase the completed project – an inspiring reading wall in the school hall.

A love of reading

We used book spines to create an immersive library on the walls of the school hall. Some of the greatest loved literary classics stack vertically as if in a bookcase. In the centre, various objects spring from an open book, literally bringing the stories to life!

We also included a Dr Seuss quote to inspire pupils to explore the lifechanging magic of reading.

This large design brings colour and interest to the school hall. It’s an effective resource to inspire curiosity and a genuine interest in reading. The Wall Art transforms the space, turning a blank white wall into a visually enticing mural. Eyes will turn upwards as pupils explore the books on show and use their imaginations to consider and discuss what they can see.

The school hall is used for a multitude of events including assemblies, parents evenings and open days. So this literacy Wall Art design makes a positive impression on pupils and visitors to the school. It also reinforces the school’s commitment to learning and literacy in particular.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Reading Agency runs the Summer Reading Challenge each year.

There are two ways for children to take part;

  1. Visit their local library to sign up. A librarian gives each child a special collector’s pack and helps them find books to read. They can collect stickers and rewards along the way.
  2. Sign up here to take part online. Children can set a reading goal and log books on their profile. When they reach their goal they’ll unlock a limited edition online badge and certificate.

One library authority is chosen at random. And they can select a school in their area to receive the Wall Art prize.

Literacy Wall Art

Literacy Wall Art is suitable for any area of a school. We can feature books, authors, storylines and scenes to bring stories to life on walls, doors, floors, ceilings, windows and outdoor buildings.

Wall Art is appropriate for any age and we tailor the designs to meet each school’s objectives;

We’re delighted to support the Summer Reading Challenge and encourage schools to participate in this exciting annual event.

Our process

We design, print and install bespoke Wall Art for schools around the world.

It starts with a free consultation at your school. We’ll discuss your goals, explain the process, show examples of past projects and measure up your available wall space. Then, we’ll create a quote based on the scope of work required. If you decide to proceed, we’ll guide you through the design process to ensure you get the exact end result you want.

Finally, we’ll install your Wall Art where it will last many years. Wall Art is a zero maintenance solution, so it won’t need to be updated or replaced.
