School Canteen Decoration Ideas

Here are 5 School Canteen Decoration Ideas to inspire you on your next improvement project.

Our School Canteen Decoration Ideas are based on real projects we’ve completed for schools. They’ll share ideas about how to transform your school’s canteen to support your improvement goals.

Canteen Wall Art can help you add charm and personality to your canteen, improve wellbeing or encourage healthy habits. It’s a durable and long-lasting alternative to temporary displays. We create all designs bespoke, so we can tailor your project to your goals and preferences.

1. Healthy Lifestyles

King’s Academy Lord Wilson educates boys with social, emotional and mental health needs. The school is based in Hampshire and provides a nurturing environment. Every pupil has the opportunity to thrive and reach their potential.

With this in mind, we designed vibrant Wall Art for the school’s canteen. We focused on connecting healthy minds and bodies, with tips about healthy food choices and their impact on the body. This design brings colour and life to the walls, while empowering messages will improve wellbeing and create a positive environment where pupils can meet and enjoy meals together.

We used large images to convey the message so it’s easy to understand and digest (pun intended!). A combination of healthy fruits and vegetables mix together to form a brain image in the centre. And a list of ‘brain foods’ shows pupils what eat in order to feel great. It’s a powerful message delivered in a fun and engaging format.

2. Rainforest Cafe

We transformed the canteen at Lee Chapel Primary School into a rainforest!

This immersive design is a particularly popular example of our School Canteen Decoration Ideas. It brings colour and interest to the walls to spark curiosity. Pupils can discuss what they discover in the designs as they enjoy their lunch together. Nature is a popular backdrop for Wall Art because it creates a sense of calm in any room. So, it’s the perfect choice for a busy canteen and can transform the space into a serene natural wonderland for pupils.

Spending time in nature is proven to benefit wellbeing. So, Lee Chapel have cleverly brought the benefits of the outdoors in. The design covers every bit of wall space, so there’s something to see from every angle.

3. Famous alumni

Clifton Hall School in Edinburgh featured their most famous alumnus, Jim Clarke, on the walls of their canteen.

The canteen is large and offers lots of wall space. So it was perfect for a horizontal timeline tracking Jim Clark’s life and career.

Pupils can now enjoy their lunch in the presence of greatness. And they can discuss and share their pride at a previous pupil of their school achieving huge success. We also included quotes and photos of Jim Clark to add to the impact and relatability.

4. Clever signage

Bower Grove Primary School in Maidstone used the walls of their canteen to convey various messages. This is a clever way to incorporate signage into the space so it feels positive and inherent.

We set the design against a calm blue backdrop, which reflects the school’s branding. The school logo and values have pride of place too. Then, we placed messaging in strategic spots; such as where to collect lunch and dispose of dishes once finished.

There’s an eco-friendly message about recycling too, so pupils can instantly see where to recycle their uneaten food to minimise waste.

5. Healthy hearts

Sacred Heart High School Hammersmith is an HPL World Class School. This means they provide a world class standard of education throughout the school.

The school offers an exceptional learning environment for pupils. Focusing on whole child education means nurturing pupils’ health as well as their academic performance. With this in mind, the school approached us to design a Wall Art project for their canteen.

The goal was to promote healthy eating habits and transform the visual environment. We created this vibrant design to celebrate the power of eating colourful fruit and vegetables. The colourful background reflects the colour of healthy foods. We branded the design with the school’s logo and included a heart shape to reflect the school’s branding and level of care for pupils.
