We designed Wall Art for William Murdoch Primary School.
William Murdoch Primary School was created following the amalgamation of Wilkes Green Infant School and Wilkes Green Junior School in 2019. Their motto is ‘Scientia Mentem Luminat’. This translates to ‘Knowledge Lights Up the Mind’. Children at the school enjoy a broad academic curriculum that is knowledge-rich. The school also offers an extensive extra-curricular programme.
William Murdoch Primary School boasts another impressive accolade. They were the winners of Promote Your School’s Inspiring Libraries competition in 2025! The prize included bespoke Wall Art, books and furniture for their school library. And, here, we’re delighted to share the end result.
The Benjamin Zephaniah library is a visually spectacular space. Pupils feel welcome, curious and engaged in reading. And this is an important step towards encouraging pupils to become lifelong readers.

A magical reading space
We used nature as a backdrop for this inspiring design. Mind Charity say that spending time in nature improves wellbeing. So using nature as a backdrop is a clever choice for a school library. It creates a calm space where pupils are transported from their everyday school environment into a magical world where anything is possible.
The library is named after Benjamin Zephaniah. He was a British writer, dub poet, actor, musician and professor of poetry and creative writing. Over his lifetime, he was awarded 20 honorary doctorates in recognition of his contributions to literature, education, and the arts. So the library is a nod to this prolific and influential British literary hero. We wanted to celebrate his legacy in the designs. So we included multiplie quotes and a photo to put a face to the name. It’s hugely inspirational for pupils to see role models on their walls.
We also featured other well known Brummies in a wall of fame to inspire pupils to follow in their footsteps.
The importance of literacy
At Promote Your School we create bespoke Wall Art for schools around the world. Literacy is a key area of focus for us. And we work with leading organisations like the BBC, BookTrust and The Reading Agency to fuel literacy in pupils of all ages.
