Seven Stories Newcastle Wall Art project

Seven Stories Newcastle

We donated literacy Wall Art to Seven Stories National Centre for Children’s Books.

Seven Stories is a Museum and Visitor Centre in Newcastle. The Centre makes literature accessible to children of all ages and encourages them to read for pleasure.

Children who read for pleasure are proven to be healthier, happier and do better at school.

That’s why, at Promote Your School, we share Seven Stories’ ambition to fuel literacy and encourage reading for pleasure.

Reading is magic

Over the past few years, we have partnered with some of the biggest literacy organisations in the UK. For example, BookTrust, The Reading Agency, Bookmark Reading Charity and the BBC.

For each of these partnerships, we donated a literacy Wall Art project. The project could be used as an incentive for schools and libraries to participate in various literacy initiatives.

As the North East of England has some of the lowest literacy levels in the country, we were keen to partner with an organisation in this region. It’s a sad fact that 17% of the NE population aged 16 to 65 have literacy levels at or below that expected of a 9 to 11 year old.

With this in mind, we put together a shortlist of literacy related organisations in the North East.

Seven Stories National Centre for Children’s Books was a unanimous choice for a new NE partnership.

Our North East based consultant, Helen, contacted Seven Stories to discuss the idea of a partnership. She explained that Promote Your School would donate a literacy Wall Art project for the centre, free of charge.

Helen then visited the centre to discuss the project in more detail and review which area would be most suitable.

The reception area was an obvious choice. It’s the first thing visitors see when they enter the building and it sets the scene for what they can discover inside. The team at Seven Stories said they were keen for their Wall Art to reflect the look and feel of the building, with a muted colour palette and a classy finish.

Helpfully, the team at Seven Stories also provided a list of book spines they wanted to feature in their Wall Art designs. This included classic texts that would appeal to older readers, to complement their new community programme for adult audiences.

Bringing the walls to life

Armed with the list of book titles from Seven Stories, Promote Your School’s design team got to work.

Helen then sent the first draft of designs to Seven Stories. The team were able to review these and suggest any edits for the design team to make. Promote Your School offers unlimited revisions to all artwork, free of charge, as part of our service. We feel this offers significant value to customers. And, it ensures that all customers are 100% happy when they sign off their artwork and send it to print.

In this case, Seven Stories made a couple of rounds of revisions. Then, they approved the final artwork.

Promote Your School then sent the final, approved artwork to our printers. Our installation provider contacted Seven Stories to arrange a pre-installation site survey. During this visit, they reviewed the available space and ensured everything was prepared for installation.

“We had a wonderful experience with Promote Your School and were so lucky to be given a beautiful, free Wall Art project.

From the initial site visit to the design stage to the install; everything was smooth, organised and efficient.

The Wall Art has given life to what was a cold, clinical and unwelcoming space. Our guests and our colleagues love the design. It’s now become a hotspot for photos and perfectly illustrates our brand and the work we do.” – Seven Stories
