King’s Academy Lord Wilson Gym Wall Art
Kings Academy Lord Wilson educates boys with SEMH needs.
Located in Hampshire, Kings Academy Lord Wilson aims to nurture potential and build confidence. Every student at the school has the opportunity to thrive, academically and personally. And the school offers tailored support through a diverse curriculum.
We created bespoke Wall Art for the school gym. The gym is an important area for pupils as it offers a safe space where they can work out and regulate. Physical education is an important part of the curriculum. Moving the body can regulate the nervous system, build confidence and help create social connections.
So it was key that we created a design that would motivate pupils, without overwhelming them.
Get moving
We used a bright blue and yellow colour palette for the design. Blue is regarded as a calm colour, perfect for regulation and rest. Whilst yellow is a warm colour, adding a touch of sunshine without overstimulating the senses.
Both colours take inspiration from nature – water and sunshine being two key elements. And, as spending time in nature is proven to benefit mental health, this was a smart choice. We included images of famous sports heroes. Motivational quotes complement the images, adding positivity and encouragement to pupils as they use the gym.
A branded welcome wall includes the school’s logo and immediately sets the tone for the space. All are welcome here, it’s an uplifting area and pupils can feel safe and happy when spending time here.
Tailored to pupils’ needs
We worked closely with the school to ensure we fully understood the brief and intended outcomes for the design. It was clear that we needed to attain a balance in design of stimulation. The designs should offer visual interest to the space, without overwhelming pupils.
The colourful designs bring the gym to life and protect the walls at the same time. Wall Art lasts many years and is a zero maintenance option. So it’s a smart choice for the gym, which sees a lot of footfall and is prone to wear and tear over time.
An undertone of success permeates the designs. And this is aligns closely with the school’s ethos. Their philosophy is ‘This place will change you if you let it‘.

The mix of images means there’s something for everyone and different quotes, photos and colours will appeal to different students.
