Greensted Primary School Curriculum and Values Wall Art

We designed Wall Art for Greensted Primary School in Basildon.

Greensted Primary School is part of the award-winning Lee Chapel Multi-Academy Trust.

The school’s headteacher says that, “Children make the greatest progress when they are happy, feel safe and are having fun.” He explains that the school offers a full and exciting curriculum that helps children progress. Their goal is to foster a life-long love of learning and ensure pupils partake in enriching and memorable experiences.

As an experienced education design agency, we love the school’s ethos, and their focus on offering a positive and stimulating learning environment. So we were delighted when the team at Greensted Primary School approached us to create a bespoke Wall Art design.

We’ve worked with other schools in the Trust, like Lee Chapel Primary School and Chapel Hill Primary School. So we were already familiar with their approach to learning.

Inspiring learning spaces

The goal of this project was varied. Firstly, the school wanted to share and reinforce their values. These principles build a sense of pride and identity, and help pupils understand what’s expected of them. Another goal was to emphasise the importance of the school’s curriculum. Combining these two elements into a single design provides positive visual cues to pupils as they walk the corridors each day. The school was keen to harness the wellbeing benefits of spending time in nature. So they also opted for a nature-based backdrop to the design.

In this way, pupils can enjoy a positive and visually stimulating learning environment. And they’ll feel as though they’re walking through a beautiful, enchanted woodland as they make their way between lessons. The design feels calm, serene and tranquil – perfect for helping pupils regulate so they’re ready to learn.

What’s particularly powerful about this design is the balance of colour, images and messaging. We’ve included a lot of detail – curriculum content, values, the school’s motto and a welcome message. But the level of stimulation is perfectly pitched to pique pupils’ interest, without overwhelming them. The nature backdrop soothes pupils and inspires a sense of calm as they engage with the designs. So it will appeal to all types of learning styles and abilities, including pupils with SEN and visual learners.

Curriculum content

We presented subjects from the school’s curriculum in a simple, visual format. Subjects are represented through images and quotes. So pupils can get a sense of why each subject matters – in a positive and accesible way. They can engage with the designs at their own pace and contemplate these or discuss their thoughts with friends.

The backdrop features relevant imagery that sparks curiosity and creates excitement and interest in the curriculum. Each quote was carefully chosen by the school to reflect the corresponding subject in a relatable way. The same applies to the representation of the school’s values. Placing these on natural wooden signposts makes them feel gentle, calm and positive. Pupils will feel that their values are something to be revered and enjoyed. The enchanting backdrop also complements their values of ‘kindness, community and curiosity‘. It all fits together beautifully.

Bespoke design

What makes this Wall Art design so special is that it’s completely bespoke. We worked closely with the team at Greensted Primary to understand exactly what they wanted to achieve with their Wall Art. Once we were clear on the brief, we created the artwork bespoke to their preferences and requirements. They suggested which quotes they wanted to include and were keen on the enchanted forest background.

Our in-house design team then brought the vision to life with these stunning designs. Then, our installation team worked hard to ensure the designs looked perfect on the walls.

We created the designs to wrap around existing features like doors and radiators. So the end result looks inherent and natural – as though it has always been there.
