But there are plenty of other reasons too. History timelines can also promote active learning, explain chronology and show the relativity of events.
Schools often approach us because they’ve seen one of our timelines and they want to know more about them. Or, they may have a goal, but be unsure of exactly how a timeline can help. So it’s our job to guide them through our process and create a design that meets their needs, achieves their learning goals and fits their wall space perfectly.
Over the years, we’ve evolved and refined our creative process so we can ensure every single project exceeds expectations.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to how we bring History timelines to life, and an explanation of why they’re such a powerful visual learning tool for schools.
History timelines provide a visual walk-through of historical events through the ages. Most timelines feature key dates and events alongside relevant images and facts but they can also focus on eras specifically or changes in society over time. Whatever the focus we will present them in a striking, extra large format design for you.
A timeline can cover world history, civilisations, regional history or even your own school’s heritage.
Horizontal wall space is ideal for timelines as it allows pupils to walk alongside and engage with the content in real-time. Teachers tell us that they love taking their pupils out of the classroom to view History timelines at their own pace. In this way, timelines facilitate active, student-led learning. In fact, pupils are naturally drawn to the content, without even realising they’re learning.
Timelines teach pupils about chronology and the relativity of events. They show learners that the past has shaped the world we live in today. And that inventions and innovations from past eras remain the tools and technology we use in the present. It’s an awe-inspiring lesson for pupils of all ages!
Timelines look amazing too. They’re a visual feast for the senses – sparking curiosity and encouraging discussion and debate between classmates and teachers.
“Our History timeline has inspired great conversations and it is wonderful to hear the children discussing different individuals and events they either recognise from previous learning, or are now interested in finding out more about. It is a vibrant addition to our school and one that has already proved a successful tool to support learning. It’s also inspired a love and curiosity of history in our pupils”

The design phase of our process is critical to make sure we deliver exactly what each school needs from their timeline;
Pin-pointing exactly what you want from your timeline is a challenging, but exciting, part of the process.
It’s our job to make this straightforward and enjoyable for you. In fact, many schools tell us they’re surprised by how much they enjoy our design process!
First we help you to decide on the location for your timeline. Corridors and stairwells are the most popular locations for timelines. But outdoor timelines are becoming increasingly popular too! Anywhere that offers a reasonable stretch of horizontal wall space will work. Some schools fill all their corridors with History timelines , which allows them to cover hundreds of events.
Then think about how you’d like the content presented. There are different design styles that will help you achieve your specific learning goals;
Once you know the objective of your timeline, its time to decide on the nitty gritty of the content. History timelines include a lot of information. But don’t let that put you off. We design timelines all the time, so we can guide and support you to collate the right list of dates events that you want included.
Then, it’s time to consider your preferences in terms of colours, fonts, image types, iconography and backdrop.
We offer a fully consultative service from start to finish;
We’ll visit your school to understand your goals, explain our process and provide you with a no-obligation quote.
