Claystone School Sensory Wall Art
We designed Sensory Wall Art for Claystone School.
Claystone School is a new school in Luton that meets the needs of children aged 4-11 years. All children at the school have additional needs, including autism. So, the school building has been remodelled to meet the needs of pupils and offer a safe and welcoming environment.
We designed Sensory Wall Art to offer tangible tips for pupils to help them regulate, feel calm and prepare to learn. The colourful design sits on a calm blue backdrop and appeals to all the senses, without overstimulating pupils.
We included cartoon style animals to appeal to Primary aged pupils and make the design appealing and accessible to all ages. Text is clear, bold and spread out to avoid overwhelming the senses. Pupils can walk alongside the design like a trail or pick out aspects they will benefit from at any time. And, because the Wall Art is extra large and in a prominent corridor of the school, pupils can engage with it whenever needed – empowering them to self-regulate, without the need for other interventions.
Sensory Wall Art
For some pupils, repetitive actions such as tracing can be soothing, while other activities can encourage controlled breathing, movement or tactile exploration.
Sensory Wall Art supports fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration and sensory exploration, while making the school environment feel more interactive and inclusive. The great thing about bespoke sensory Wall Art is that we design it around the needs of each school. So, in this instance, we ensured that the designs would appeal to the specific needs of pupils at Claystone School.
Pupils can engage with the Wall Art in the way that suits them best. This doesn’t need to be a formal whole class activity. Some pupils might use the wall ad hoc when they need to regulate. Others may use it as part of structured daily activities.
Wall Art for SEND pupils
Every child deserves to feel comfortable walking through their school doors. For SEND pupils, the environment around them can have just as much impact as the teaching itself. Lighting, noise, layout, colour and visual clarity all influence how safe, regulated and confident a child feels during the day.
Across the UK, around 1.7 million pupils have special educational needs. And just like any learner, they thrive when their surroundings are predictable, welcoming and supportive. That’s where thoughtful design makes a real difference.
At Promote Your School, we create bespoke Wall Art that helps schools shape spaces with purpose. This includes sensory rooms and quiet corners, busy communal areas and corridors. Our designs don’t just brighten walls; they also help pupils regulate emotions, build independence and feel a sense of belonging.
Our process
We create all designs in-house and bespoke to each school’s requirements. The process begins with a free and no obligation consultation, which will take place at the school. After the consultation, we’ll send over a quote, which includes all costs upfront, so the school can take this to their board or use it as part of the tender process.
If the school decides to proceed with the project, we’ll then guide them through our design process. We’ll ask for decisions on specific content the school wants to include. But we’ll create the designs and source the imagery ourselves, so the school need not send this over. Once we’ve presented the first draft of designs, the school can make as many amends as they wish, against the original brief.
Finally, we’ll print and install the Wall Art. It is a sustainable and long-lasting product, so will not need to be replaced for many years. And it’s zero maintenance – just wipe off any spills or marks and your Wall Art will stay looking pristine for many years.
