We designed a World Food Map for Queens Park Academy.

Queens Park Academy serves a diverse and international community. The Bedford based school boasts a variety of differing cultures, languages and religions. Children are proud to be a part of the school community. And they work together to learn and support one another to grow and improve.

We designed a World Food Map, with this spirit of diversity in mind. The Wall Art design celebrates foods from around the world. And it includes the school’s values, reminding pupils to “Be Kind, be safe, be ready”. Located in the school hall, this vibrant design attracts attention and creates a visual focal point for the space. As a busy communal area, it’s the perfect spot for Wall Art. And we loved bringing the design to life on the school’s walls.

World Food Map

Food is an important part of culture, heritage, tradition and community. It brings people together, starts conversations and enables sharing in various forms. Healthy habits lead to positive lifestyle choices – and this education begins at Primary School level.

So, we were delighted to celebrate world foods in this fun, colourful design. We included a visual representation of a healthy plate of food. It includes a breakdown of food groups, with a quote below explaining that “A healthy outside starts on the inside”.

The large visual map shows the origins of various dishes. This allows pupils to see these dishes against the backdrop of the world, so they get a sense of relativity to the food we all eat and where it originated.

Diversity and tolerance

We loved sharing and celebrating world foods in this design for Queens Park Academy. Due to its large format, pupils can walk alongside the design and engage with the content, or view it from afar whilst enjoying lunch.

The map also serves as a learning aid. It includes labels of continents at the top, with individual dishes displayed alongside the name of the country they originate from.

Pupils can celebrate nationalities and cultures by engaging with the design. This will breed tolerance and inclusion – making all pupils feel part of the same community.

Our process

As per our standard process, we created the designs bespoke to the school’s requirements. We initially visited Queens Park Academy to discuss their vision for the project. The visit also allowed us to walk around the building and suggest ideas for the best location and design style to fit the available space.

Our in-house design team took the brief and turned the school’s vision into bespoke artwork. We presented this back to the school for feedback, inviting the school to make any amends they wanted. Once the school was 100% happy, they approved the final artwork.

We then printed and installed the Wall Art, ready for the school to reveal to very excited pupils!

Positive outcomes

We’re confident that this World Food Map will promote positive mindsets and a sense of belonging for all pupils.

It’s a visually powerful design with a strong message, delivered in a fun and accessible way for pupils. Best of all, the Wall Art will last many years, with zero maintenance required. So the school won’t need to update or replace the designs any time soon. It’s also wipe-clean for any spills over lunchtimes!

Our aim is to provide the children of Queen’s Park with an exceptional, knowledge rich curriculum which enables the pupils to know and remember more over time.” – Emma Bolton, Principal at Queens Park Academy
