A High School Maths Stairwell is a fantastic resource to stimulate curiosity in the subject. We created this design for Ilford County High School in London. It features a selection of Mathematicians who made a huge impact on humanity.
Best of all, the design has transformed a stairwell and turned it into a learning opportunity for students.
High School Maths Stairwell
Maryam Mirzakhani was an Iranian mathematician and a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. She was the first woman and first Iranian to win the Fields Medal, which is regarded as the equivalent of a Nobel prize for mathematicians. Sadly, Maryam passed away in 2017 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.
Maryam’s legacy lives on in the High School Maths Stairwell at Ilford County High School. Pupils are able to see a photo of Maryam as they learn about her work in the field of Mathematics. All this whilst walking up or down the stairwell between lessons and breaks at school.
