On 17th May 2024, thousands of children all around the country – in schools, nurseries, community groups and at home – will spend the day reading, enjoying and sharing stories. Children can wear their favourite pyjamas to raise vital funds and encourage reading for pleasure.
Read on to find out more about Pyjamarama, and our role in the campaign.
BookTrust’s Pyjamarama is an annual event aimed at all children across the UK.
Taking part in Pyjamarama gives schools, nurseries, libraries, clubs, parents and carers a great way to encourage children to read for pleasure.
By getting involved, children and schools can raise vital funds to help make sure that no child misses out on story time.
Pyjamarama is easy and fun to organise. Children can stay in their pyjamas on 17th May, and bring in £1 to school. This will support BookTrust’s work to get more children reading.
Every school that registers for Pyjamarama 2024 will be entered into a random prize draw. And one lucky school will win a bespoke, literacy Wall Art prize.
Literacy Wall Art is a stunning visual learning resource that’s proven to inspire reading for pleasure in children of all ages. Children who read for pleasure are happier and healthier. And they achieve better learning outcomes.
Promote Your School will design, print and install the prize. Transform your school library or create a dedicated reading space anywhere in your school!
Register to take part in Pyjamarama 2024 and you’ll automatically be entered into the prize draw.
After 17th May 2024, BookTrust will draw the winning school at random. They will notify the Promote Your School team of the school name and contact person.
Then, we’ll contact the winning school to discuss their prize, explain the process and start work on the design brief.
Once the school has approved their literacy Wall Art design, we’ll print this on premium, industrial grade vinyl. So it will last many years.
Finally, we’ll install the Wall Art project at a time that’s convenient for the school. We always aim to minimise disruption to teaching time on installation day. So we can install out of hours, over weekends and during the holidays if required.
There are loads of ways to use literacy Wall Art to inspire reading!
One example; encourage your pupils to suggest their favourite authors and books and we can feature these in your designs.
Or, use calm nature-inspire images to create a relaxing reading space. This is particularly helpful for SEN pupils and those who read to self regulate.
You can even use quotes from classic novels to spark interest and fuel imaginations. Visual learners can use literacy Wall Art to remember the names of books, authors and storylines. This can help with recall at exam times, to promote better outcomes.
We’ll design your literacy Wall Art to appeal to the relevant ages of your pupils. For younger readers, think fairy tales, castles, fairies and unicorns. Older readers will enjoy stirring images from setbooks and classic stories.
We’ll work closely with the winning school to understand your goals for literacy Wall Art. Then, we’ll design a beautiful, bespoke Wall Art project that fits the designated space perfectly.
