Booktrust Pyjamarama

BookTrust’s Pyjamarama Day invites children around the UK to spend the day in their pyjamas as they read, enjoy and share stories.

Each year, Pyjamarama helps raise vital funds to help every child get a bedtime story. And, for the past couple of years, Promote Your School has supported the campaign by donating a literacy Wall Art project as a prize.

Every school that took part in Pyjamarama Day was entered into a random prize draw to win the literacy Wall Art project.

We’re delighted to announce that this year’s winner was Lancot School in Bedfordshire!

Pyjamarama prize winner

Lancot School won a bespoke, literacy based Wall Art project for their school. The prize included design, printing and installation of a large visual wall display measuring up to 18 square metres in size.

To begin, we visited Lancot School to discuss their goals for the project and measure up the wall space. They were keen to use the area as an intervention space, just outside the library, where the reading scheme books are.

The team at Lancot wanted a generic, enchanted lands design to inspire children to get lost in the array of books on offer. The designs would transport pupils to fictional lands, generate vocabulary and inspire imaginations for storytelling and writing.

The designs

There wasn’t much natural light available, so we created a light background within the Wall Art design to brighten the area.

Members of the team at Lancot asked that we feature diverse characters that would excite and encourage young readers. Plus, the area was based in Year 3 and Year 4, so the designs needed to appeal to pupils of these ages.

We also transformed the sliding doors to the library with a ‘Narnia’ inspired image. The idea is to pique curiosity and entice pupils towards the space.

Reading is magic

Pupils who read for pleasure are proven to be healthier, happier and achieve better outcomes at school. So, literacy Wall Art continues to grow in popularity for schools who want to build a ‘reading for pleasure’ culture.

Bespoke literacy Wall Art, like this design for Lancot School, can spark curiosity, ignite imaginations and create a welcoming space. Pupils can discuss the images, relate to characters and enjoy the calming visual backdrop when they visit their school library or reading area.

Literacy Wall Art can transform dull or drab walls and complement existing features like furniture and fixtures.

Wall Art for your school

At Promote Your School, we create bespoke Wall Art for schools around the world. Literacy is a popular topic for schools to focus on. But we’re able to design Wall Art to raise aspirations in any core curriculum subjects. We can also design walls that improve wellbeing, share your values, increase cultural capital and promote diversity and inclusion.

It all starts with a free, no obligation visit to your school. We’ll advise on the best way to maximise your budget and available space. Then we’ll guide you through the design process, offering unlimited revisions to your artwork against the original brief.

Finally, we’ll print and install your Wall Art at a convenient time for you. This includes weekends and holidays to minimise disruption to teaching time.
